Next session runs: 18-29 June
Hosted by Jane Hart
Social media tools are increasingly being used in traditional classrooms and workshops as well as in online courses. This short programme provides some ideas and suggestions for using social tools to enhance the social aspects of formal learning in your course, programme or training event.
How this programme works
There are 5 web-based assignments which provide an introduction to the topic with links to additional reading (if desired), as well as individual activities, and group discussions. Your daily time commitment will be about one hour.
There are no synchronous activities in the main assignments, which means you can work through them at any time, but there will be a voluntary get-to-know you online session using Google + on Monday 18 June 18.30-19.30 BST (13.30-14.30 ET, 1030-1130 PT)
Agenda
- Mon 18 June – Planning the use of social media for formal learning

- Fri 22 June – How to use social media to … share links and resources
- Tues 26 June – How to use social media to … contribute and (co)create content

Feedback from previous participants
I’d like to thank you for a thoroughly enjoyable course and some excellent resources. For me one of the most useful aspects of both this and the previous course (How to set up and sustain an online community) was learning how to organise and manage an online course. I have found your delivery model to be excellent – enough assignments to make me carve an hour out of my diary every other day but not so much as to be overwhelming.
The exposure to informative blog posts and other online articles has been inspirational and has given me ideas on how to develop training workshops on a range of subjects. You’ve also helped me discover some great new learning tools, as well as providing innovative suggestions for using established tools such as blogs.
And finally, having the opportunity to see how others have approached the assignments and to ask questions has been very valuable. So a big thank you to all participants for some excellent contributions!
